Time and Space, Ibiza
Time and Space is an amazing sculpture and work of art by Andrew Rodgers which was originally called “Rythms of Life”. It is located in the southern part of Ibiza, in an area called Sant Josep de sa Talaia, in a cove called Cala Llentia. It is part of a project of 56 megalithic sculptures set across 16 countries.
The sculpture is made up of thirteen solid basalt columns that each weigh 420 tons and stand up to 10 meters high. 12 columns are laid out in a semi-circle and alludes to the trajectories of the planets that move around the sun. The 13th column, the tallest one, is situated in the center and has a gold coating at the top of one side to reflect the setting sun on the day of the winter solstice.
It is a vision of time and space and the inter-connectivity of humanity. Its layout and purpose makes it also known as the Ibizan Stonehenge or the Ibiza Sundial. Circ du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté was the driving force behind the project, and it is said that he brought the materials from Turkey by boat and they were assembled in less than a week at their current location.
