Real Casa Moneda Virtual Experience
Soulbank has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism of Segovia to create an interactive, virtual experience based on the historical Real Casa de Moneda museum in Segovia, Spain. The project’s primary objective is to generate global visibility for Spain’s heritage by providing virtual access to the property and open it up to a wider and more diverse group of people by leveraging the latest in online, mobile, 3D and virtual technology.
One of the oldest and most important pieces of industrial architecture in Europe, the Real Casa de Moneda was a coin factory built by King Felipe II in 1583. It was the first property of its type to be owned by the crown and was both innovative and pioneering. The facility housed the most modern machinery of its time, and was ahead of other factories in Europe in the industrial revolution.
“This project is a great example of how technology can be put at the service of history, which is especially appropriate in the case of the Real Casa de Moneda since it was always characterized by housing the most advanced technology.”
Claudia de Santos Borreguero
The fully immersive solution created by Soulbank was built using high quality game ready 3D technology from Unity and is delivered on mobile devices as well as desktop and laptop computers. A custom solution for the Metaverse that runs in web browsers as well as a dedicated version for VR headsets is also under development.
The Real Casa de Moneda virtual experience provides a new and exciting way for people to learn about Spain. You can find out more about the project and download the free apps at https://vr.casamonedasegovia.es
A Fully Immersive Experience
The Casa de Moneda experience includes high-quality 3D recreations of the property along with virtual tours of its main locations, giving people a new and exciting way to learn about its art, history and culture.
The virtual experience runs in “first person mode” allowing users to walk around and explore the property at their leisure. It includes everything from complete scenes and environments to information on the fountains, statues and machines that were used in the coin making process.
Based around an interactive 3D map, users can quickly learn about the property and its history by taking advantage of the built-in guided tour and audio tracks, or via a dedicated help center. From the map users are able to easily access the 5 main areas of the museum where they can tag items of interest as they walk around and even take virtual photographs that can be shared online.
Desktop Applications
The desktop versions of the experience run on both Windows and Apple PCs and laptops. Using built-in profiling technology we are able to optimize the experience so that it can run on everything from low-end laptops to high-powered gaming PCs for the best possible experience. This allows everyone to visit the Real Casa de Moneda whether they are at home, at work or in schools.
Mobile Experience
Our easy to use mobile application runs on both iOS and Android devices and appeals to people of all ages. Fully integrated touch controls allow for easy navigation and an optional “gyro” mode gives users a more immersive experience. The ability to easily teleport around the scenes makes it easy to enjoy the environments, and our virtual photos can easily be shared with family and friends using built-in social media apps.
Virtual Reality
The Virtual Reality version of the application, which supports the Oculus Rift and Quest headsets, is currently in beta. It builds on the desktop application to deliver a fully immersive experience allowing users to explore the property as if they were actually there. With full 360-degrees of motion and visibility, and custom in-scene navigation helps users to truly experience the property and quickly jump from location to location. Built-in information panels and virtual tours provide educational material about the art, machinery and other items in the app.
Welcome to the Metaverse
The Real Casa de Moneda virtual experience is also Metaverse ready! A high-powered web-based version will be released online over the coming weeks that delivers the full functionality of the Desktop application inside any web browser. In order to optimize the experience for web-based delivery, it will initially be available in stand alone parts. Visitors will be able to explore the main map and then move on to individual components for each of the 5 individual areas of the property.
