Komainu at Yoshibaoka Fuji Asama Shrine
This Komainu is located at the Yoshibaoka Fuji Asama Shrine in Tokyo, Japan. Komainu, often called lion-dogs in English, are statue pairs of lion-like creatures that guard the entrance or the honden, or inner shrine of many Japanese Shinto shrines.
An Asama shrine is a type of Shinto Shrine in Japan centered on the worship of the kami of volcanos in general, and Mount Fuji in particular.
