Damian Ramis – Penguin
Penguinis a sculpture done in the contemporary style by artist and sculptor Damian Ramis from Mallorca, Spain. It is made of plaster and is covered in colored comics with a shiny finish and is a part of the Aviary series which was launched in 2019 at Galería MA Arte contemporáneo in Palma de Mallorca.
“This work from the Aviarium series is a work that starts from the study of the anatomy of a penguin to turn it into a new concept of sculpture. Regarding the initial structure of the animal, made with an iron and plaster skeleton, I wanted to propose a conceptual renewal, in which the final decoration, like a painting, was replaced by a large number of small comic strip pieces, which acted, both as a final patina and animation of the forms.”

Aviary Series
With birds as the sole theme, the Aviarium series started from the idea of using comic paper as the final patina of each work. Based on the initial modeling of each bird, using metal, plaster and glue, the final process of each work consisted of a laborious work of combining bright colors and halftones of the comic paper and, as if it were an ancient mosaic, transfusing life and intensity to each of the birds.
