Hippie and Daughter, Ibiza
This bronze statue of a long haired hippie and his young daughter is located in the port of Ibiza, in Spain. Below them, a world map highlights the most significant international hippie communities: San Francisco, Amsterdam, Kathmandu, Goa, and Ibiza.
The statue pays tribute to the importance of the hippie movement and it portrays the cool and magnetic attitude that empowers the people of Ibiza, a result of living in a society where the hippie philosophy is truly alive: freedom, love, joy, nature, to be unique and a part of the community.
The statue was donated to Ibiza by Ricardo Urgell, the founder of Pacha Group. It was made by he Catalan sculptor Ció Abellí, and is inspired by a famous photograph taken byToni Riera, where a young hippie father walks next to his little daughter at the park.
The photograph was taken at Vondelpark in Amsterdam in the beginnings of the ’70s and it emphasizes the concept of world brotherhood, considering that all the hippies that came to Ibiza were from America and Europe.
Inaugurated in the summer of 2016, you can find the sculpture in front of the Can Pou Bar at the intersection of Carrer Lluis Tur i Palau and Carrer Guillem de Montgrí, in the Ibiza harbor.
