Bronze Bull, Burgos Spain
At the site of the old arena Los Vadillos in Burgos, Spain lies a full sized sculpture of a fighting bull. It was placed there in 2011 in memory of the bull fighters and the bullfights that were held in the arena between 1862 and 1967.
The bronze sculpture weighs 900 kilograms and was made by Alfa Arte. It is “patinated” which gives it a green or brown film produced by oxidation. The bull appears brave in stance, as if it had just come out into the ring. The statue is extremely lifelike, from the flat padding of his face and the sheepskin on his chest to the curl of his hair and perfect configuration of his horns.
Known locally as “Estatua del Toro” the construction of the statue, its pedestal and the water fountain it is located on is said to have cost the city some $3.7 million euros.
